A British Council report on the economy of Durga Puja in the state says that West Bengal sees significant uptick in the number of tourists visiting the state during 10-day long festivities. Kolkata saw 120 per cent spike in bus passengers around Durga Puja, 11 per cent spike in air traffic before the pandemic in 2019. The report further states that an estimated 36,000 community Pujas were held across the state in 2019. Various clubs registered with the government hosted 2,500 Pujas across the state the same year.
