Jammu and Kashmir gifted with many development projects worth more than Rs 32,000 crore


Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on Tuesday inaugurated, dedicated to the nation and laid the foundation stone of several development projects worth over Rs 32,000 crore in Jammu. These projects cover a wide range of sectors including health, education, rail, roads, aviation, petroleum and civil infrastructure. He also distributed appointment orders to about 1500 new government employees of Jammu and Kashmir. He also interacted with the beneficiaries of various government schemes under the 'Develop India – Develop Jammu' programme.

Giving impetus to the socio-economic development of Jammu and Kashmir, he inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of a series of transformational projects worth ₹32,000 crore. These projects spanning across various sectors including health, education, transport, energy and civil infrastructure are set to usher in a new era of development and progress in the region. He flagged off the first electric train in the valley, a historic moment for the transport sector of the region. Additionally, he inaugurated the train service between Sangaldan station and Baramulla station, marking a major progress towards enhancing connectivity and mobility in Jammu and Kashmir.

A highlight of the event was the commissioning of the Banihal-Khari-Sumber-Sangaldan section using Ballast Less Track (BLT), which promises a better riding experience for passengers. The stretch also boasts of India's longest transport tunnel, T-50, spanning 12.77 kilometres, further enhancing connectivity and accessibility in the region.

Major projects inaugurated and undertaken by him include the construction of a new terminal building at Jammu Airport, aimed at enhancing air connectivity and promoting tourism and trade. Additionally, various rail and road projects were dedicated to the nation, promising better connectivity, environmental sustainability and overall economic growth. Additionally, the foundation stone of a state-of-the-art CUF Petroleum Depot was laid in Jammu, which will significantly increase the storage capacity of various petroleum products while meeting the energy needs of the region.

Apart from these infrastructure projects, several development initiatives worth over ₹3150 crore were inaugurated and launched, which focused on strengthening civic infrastructure and providing essential public amenities across Jammu and Kashmir.
