Indian Railways records best ever performance in FY 2023-24

Indian Railways is on track to register the best ever performance in its history in terms of freight business, total revenue, track laying in the financial year 2023-24.

As per preliminary data, Indian Railways has crossed the basic freight traffic of 1500 million tonnes today on March 15, 2024. Earlier, Indian Railways had achieved the best ever freight traffic of 1512 million tonnes in FY 2022-23.

During this financial year 2023-24, the total revenue of Indian Railways so far is Rs 2.40 lakh crore. The total revenue as on March 15 last year was Rs 2.23 lakh crore. There was an increase of Rs 17000 crore. The total expenditure of Indian Railways in this financial year 2023-24 is Rs 2.26 lakh crore.

The total number of passengers traveling during the financial year 2023-24 is 648 crore. This is Rs 52 crore more than the figures for the same period last year. The total number of passengers traveling last year was 596 crore.

So far in the ongoing financial year, 5100 kilometers of new track has been laid by Indian Railways. The average daily track this financial year is more than 14 kilometers per day.
