Agreement between ACME and Japanese heavy industry major IHI for supply of green ammonia from India to Japan


ACME Group, India's leading renewable energy company, and IHI Corporation, Japan's integrated heavy industries group, have signed an offtake term sheet to supply green ammonia from Odisha, India to Japan.

Under this term sheet between Japanese company IHI and Indian company ACME, 0.4 MMTPA (million metric tons per year) green ammonia will be supplied on long-term basis from Phase-1 of Gopalpur project in Odisha. The two companies intend to partner to create a market for green ammonia in a variety of power generation applications and various industrial uses in Japan, from production to logistics, supply to Japanese consumers, and overall emissions reduction.

Speaking about the agreement, Union Minister for Power and New and Renewable Energy Shri R. Of. Singh said that this is the world's first and largest agreement in the field of green hydrogen and green ammonia. ''Japan has been a close friend and partner of India. This alliance of renewable energy sector to enhance green activities will further strengthen our partnership. India's cost of producing green hydrogen and green ammonia is already among the most competitive in the world. We are emerging as one of the largest manufacturers of green hydrogen and green ammonia in the world.”

He also underlined the strategic importance of the partnership between India and Japan. “Our partnership with Japan is strategic, it will become stronger. There is a huge requirement for green hydrogen and green ammonia in Japan and other developed countries, which India is able to supply at very competitive rates.”

He said that this agreement is a historic opportunity, which will lead to a new world. “This will be a new world where we will replace fossil fuels and carbon with green and renewable fuels such as green hydrogen and green ammonia. I congratulate both ACME and IHI for this partnership. It is my wish that this partnership between Japan and India becomes bigger and stronger in the coming times.''
