Super Specialty Block started at GSVM Medical College in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh


Union Health Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya virtually inaugurated a Super Specialty Block at Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi Memorial Medical College in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh yesterday. He also laid the foundation stone of All India Institute of Speech and Hearing (AIISH) Satellite Center in Kanpur. Dignitaries from Uttar Pradesh were present on this occasion.

He said, “This super specialty block provides 12 super-specialty services to the people, which will help people to avail these specialized services locally, thereby saving their valuable time and resources.” He further said, “AIISH Center in Kanpur will be the first such state-of-the-art center in North India, which will not only train doctors but also take care of the people.”

“This is the central government's commitment to transform the entire gamut of the healthcare landscape of the country,” he said. He said, “The number of AIIMS in the country has increased from 6 to 23, the number of medical colleges has almost doubled to 710, Jan Aushadhi Kendras have crossed 10,000 and other similar achievements like doubling of MBBS and PG Have been achieved.” The seats and establishment of more than 1.60 lakh Ayushman Arogya Mandirs under the Ayushman Bharat scheme underlines the rapid progress being made in the healthcare sector in India.

He said that apart from creating new health care infrastructure, the government has also increased the scope of quality care and treatment that people can receive from both public and private hospitals. On the health care initiative taken for Uttar Pradesh, the Union Health Minister said that Uttar Pradesh is the only state in India which has two AIIMS. He said the number of medical colleges in the state has also doubled in the last 10 years. It will also be equipped with modern facilities including 30 ICU beds and 8 operation theatres.
