India’s longest Ganga Expressway has been inaugurated

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday inaugurated the 594-km access-controlled greenfield Ganga Expressway in Hardoi, marking a major boost to road infrastructure in Uttar Pradesh.

The six-lane expressway, expandable to eight lanes, connects Meerut in western UP to Prayagraj in the east, significantly reducing travel time between the two cities to around six hours. Passing through 12 districts, the corridor is expected to enhance connectivity for hundreds of towns and villages along its route.

Built at an estimated cost of over ₹36,000 crore, the project is among the longest expressways in India and has been designed as a high-speed corridor to facilitate smoother movement of passengers and freight. Officials said the expressway would integrate with existing road networks, strengthening logistics efficiency and regional connectivity.

Addressing the gathering, the Prime Minister described the expressway as a “lifeline for development,” highlighting its role in accelerating economic activity, attracting investment, and generating employment opportunities across the state. He also noted that the corridor would support industrial growth and improve access to key markets.

The Ganga Expressway is expected to play a crucial role in transforming Uttar Pradesh’s infrastructure landscape, linking major economic centres and paving the way for faster, safer, and more efficient transportation.
