The nationwide ‘Khet Bachao Abhiyan’ has reached nearly 2.712 crore citizens and sensitised more than 7.17 lakh farmers on the balanced use of fertilisers, marking a major step toward promoting sustainable agriculture and improving soil health across the country.
The campaign was launched to create awareness about the excessive use of chemical fertilisers and the importance of balanced nutrient application for maintaining long-term agricultural productivity. Through field-level outreach programmes, training sessions, and awareness drives, farmers were educated on scientific farming practices and efficient fertiliser management.
Officials stated that the initiative focuses on encouraging judicious use of nutrients such as nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium, while promoting organic and bio-fertilisers to improve soil fertility and reduce environmental degradation. The campaign also emphasises the use of soil health cards and precision farming techniques for optimising crop yields.
Agriculture experts noted that unbalanced fertiliser usage can adversely affect soil quality, groundwater, and crop productivity over time. By spreading awareness among farmers, the campaign aims to reduce input costs, enhance farm sustainability, and support environmentally responsible agricultural practices.
The large-scale participation of farmers and citizens highlights the growing awareness regarding sustainable agriculture and soil conservation. The initiative is expected to contribute to improved agricultural efficiency and strengthen the country’s efforts toward ensuring long-term food security and ecological balance.
The campaign forms part of broader efforts to modernise Indian agriculture through scientific interventions, farmer education, and sustainable resource management practices aimed at increasing productivity while protecting natural resources.
